Terrarium Cake Tutorial

This post is a Part 2 to the Terrarium Cake Tutorial that can be found in the Summer 2016 issue of Betty Magazine. The following tutorial details how to make the buttercream succulents. If you've followed the first part of the tutorial in the magazine and need additional help with the buttercream cacti, check out my Potted Cactus Cake or House Plant Cupcakes tutorials. For the buttercream succulent DIY continue on below. I'll be updating the post with some additional tips next week, so make sure to come back for those! To make the buttercream succulents, you will need: a piping nail, a petal decorating tip, buttercream frosting (dyed green), small wax paper squares.

Directions:

Fill a piping bag with a petal decorating tip (i.e.Wilton #104) and some green-colored buttercream frosting. Add a small dollop of buttercream to the top of a piping nail and then add a small square of wax paper (the wax paper needs to be just a bit larger than your succulent size). Holding the tip at a slight angle down, create a curl in the center as the base, then at a 45 degree angle with the smaller end of the tip facing upwards, pipe small increments of buttercream working around the center, slightly overlapping each one until you reach your preferred succulent size. Refrigerate once finished.
